This was a refresh of an existing garden. Creating some screening for the neighbours shed and clearing out and replanting garden beds, that hadn't been looked after for a while, with low maintenance plants.

Norlane Children and Family Centre

This was a really sculptural project. The large tree sections were brought to site and burned to create the striking colour and texture. The stones are placed so that children can run and play and family members can sit and talk in a circle.

Raised garden beds and a rock mound for children to play on heled create a sense of enclosure and incorporate level changes across the site.

The seating acts as storage to helped declutter a children's play space.

Newtown

Another native ecological focused garden. We used reused and repurposed materials to make native bird and insect friendly garden.

The garden includes a custom insect hotel and pond and fountain for the clients to sit next to and relax and enjoy being close to nature.

This was a big project bursting with creativity and fun. The result, many happy children.

Heaps of custom play elements and native and textural planting for the children to engage with.

Fernery

Some before, during and after shots here. What a transformation! We used the micro climate under this existing tree, built some screening and turned it into a green paradise.

Over the last 18 months the ferns have taken over and have created a relaxation space with running water and cooling air even on hot days. The screening also allows for views from and extra privacy for the master bedroom.

About Gavin's Gardens

I'm Gavin and I love gardens. I am a qualified landscape architect and design teacher. My happy place is being outside working in my garden, or yours.

I started Gavin's Gardens to get me away from working behind a desk, working with plants and talking to people about their gardens. I love to share my knowledge and passion for plants, soil, mulch and help connect people with the natural environment in their own home.

I believe all gardens have a role to play in working with the wider environment and sustainable gardens have a positive effect on the world around them. Designing and working with natural systems in mind can save you money, improve your garden and help the surrounding natural ecology. Wherever we can, we encourage the use of sustainable materials and elements within a garden. Including reuse, recycled and repurposed materials.

My clients as a diverse bunch, all with differing needs and desires for their outdoor spaces and that’s great. Getting to know my clients unique personalities and ideas is a key element of my design process. Once I know you, I can tailor my skill and knowledge to provide you with an individual garden space. It’s your garden and you can be as involved in the design, construction or maintenance process as you like.

Gavin's Gardens has five core beliefs:

  • Everyone deserves to have a great garden

  • Everyone should have access to quality design advice

  • The best gardens are clear extension their owners unique personality and lifestyle

  • Fantastic service and individual attention are key to successful projects

  • Gardens are a connection to the broader environment
